Many of our customers find it convenient to budget their monthly energy costs
through participation in Pepco's Average Payment Plan. This plan allows
you to make a fixed payment each month, therefore avoiding the fluctuation
in monthly bills, which may arise as a result of heating and/or air conditioning
use.
How Does The Plan Work? By reviewing your
historical usage data (or that of the former occupant if you are a new customer),
Pepco estimates your annual usage and divides those costs into twelve equal
monthly installments. At the end of your plan year, (February for the non-electric
heating customer, and July for the electric heating customer) an adjustment
is made to the amount of your monthly payment to compensate for any difference
between your actual charges over the twelve month period and the payments
that you have made. If your payments have been less than your actual charges,
the settlement balance is due at that time. If your payments have exceeded
your actual charges, the credit balance will be promptly refunded. During
the course of your plan year, your account is periodically reviewed and
your monthly average payment amount changed if there are substantial differences
between your estimated and actual usage. Only two such adjustments, however,
may be made during the plan year.
Are There Any Specific Joining Requirements?
The only requirement for joining the plan is that your account currently
be paid in full and that there are no past due amounts. You may also join
in any month, although your first plan year could be less than twelve months
in order for plan settlement to occur in either February or July.
How Do I Join? To join the plan, you may complete
and submit the

form, call our main customer service number, (202) 833-7500, or simply
visit one of our Customer Service Centers. Once we have received your application,
we will initiate your Average Payment Plan and confirm your participation
by mail. This confirmation will also include the amount of the monthly payment,
which will appear on your next bill. If after reviewing the confirmation
you should decide not to participate, just contact us to cancel your application.
