“Refugee Rights are Human Rights” is the central
theme of the Fifth Annual World Refugee Day poster contest, sponsored
by UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie. Students throughout the United
States, grades 4-12, designed posters reflecting the basic human rights
of refugees, and how having access to food, water, shelter and medicine
can help ensure their survival and safety. The three selected winners
will travel to Washington, DC, to open the World Refugee Day exhibit at
the National Geographic Museum at Explorers Hall. Their posters will be
on display at National Geographic from May 19 – July 17, 2005.
